Reduce Stress and Be Happy

Anything taken too much is bad for the health. A little stress is actually good, as it could serve to help you function at your best. However, stress that seems a little too much could take a physical, as well as mental, toll to your body. Stress should be managed in order for depression or anxiety to be prevented.

So how should you do it then? The following are tips and advice to help manage stress.

Write it out, schedule it out.

It is best to write down everything that seems to be overwhelming. You will find a things-to-do-list much easier to manage than having errands all crumpled up in your head. Writing down the tasks, and putting a specific schedule and time to do them, helps anyone manage activities one chunk at a time. Crossing out an activity that has already been accomplished is very rewarding and could actually help you feel more relaxed when doing the other tasks at hand.

One at a time works.

Focus and put all your attention specifically on one task at one time.  It does not help to feel panicky about the other undone or to-do tasks. Thinking about them only adds unnecessary stress and could even hamper in doing the task you are attempting to accomplish at present.

Relax and take it slow.

At least, try not to expend too much energy on activities that are currently not priorities. This is in order for your energy to be not easily expended on the tasks that are not that important, at least for now.

Delegate, delegate, delegate.

You need not do everything all at once, and you need not do everything on your own. Ask for help, get help, or pay for help.  When there is a feeling of being overwhelmed that is cropping up, hire someone to mow the lawn or get a sitter for your children. The feeling of being pressed to finish something on time will somehow be eliminated if tasks are delegated. It takes a load off unnecessary worry and anxiety. Moreover, it is easier checking up on how things are, than worrying yourself sick doing everything on your own, all at once.

Give yourself a reward.

You deserve it. Acknowledging your accomplishments, no matter how big or small, is an effort that is necessary before getting on to the next tasks and activities. It reduces stress and could even make you happier in doing the next task.

Give yourself a break.

You need it to be more productive. A ten to fifteen minute break during your work is necessary. Go visit a café nearby, take a quick brisk walk, or do anything to put your mind off work, at least for a while. This is necessary to refresh and recharge. Believe it or not, you can also stay in your work and sit with your eyes closed as you visualize a peaceful landscape or a relaxing scene. This frees the stress from your muscles and your mind.

Relax and be cool. Doing so makes you healthier, happier, and a lot more productive.

Practice the Act of Gratitude and Say Goodbye to Stress

Practice the Act of Gratitude and Say Goodbye to Stress by Mulyadi Kurnia

Gratitude- a word often used but seldom adhered to. How many times have we actually taken the time to feel grateful about something? We often say that good things happen to other people, but why don’t we realize that at time we are the ‘other’ person for a lot of people out there.

When you feel grateful, you feel content, which in turn makes you feel happier. And it is this consistent feeling of happiness that helps to reduce and in due time, thoroughly remove the proneness to stress and anxiety.

Stress is a growing concern in today’s fast-paced life, and it is no more a demography-based problem. From high school students to retired professionals, everyone has something or the other to worry about.

It only takes a minute for you to stress out; any external or thought-related stimuli can send your mind in turmoil and you start to feel the symptoms of stress- tightening of the chest, short shallow breathing, feeling of restlessness, loss of appetite, headache, and profuse sweating.

There are a lot of stress-busting techniques like deep breathing and using positive affirmations to calm down. But one sure formula that instantly helps to alleviate stress is counting your blessings.

Gratitude works not just on your mental health but also on your physical well-being. When you instantly shift your focus from the cause of stress to thinking and being grateful about every blessing that you have in life, you feel much lighter, much in control of your life, and a part of the universe.

In fact, even if you are not stressed, just thinking that you have been granted more than enough gives you a sense of calm and you feel cherished.

With gratitude comes appreciation. So, when you truly feel thankful for relationships, career, job, money, or even health, you start to appreciate your current state in terms of these areas in life, even if it needs a little working upon. You start to consider whatever you have to be enough, which psychologically is a great stress reduction technique.

People often stress when their current quality of life or certain areas of the life do not match with their vision. So, if someone’s idea of a perfect body is a beefed up look with toned abs, they would not be happy at an overall healthy and fit body. When you feel grateful for whatever you have, this emotion and psychological feeling that ‘I don’t have enough’ tends to ebb away and you feel content.

This is the direct influence of practicing the act of gratitude. A secondary benefit is that the appreciation born out of gratitude leads to acknowledgement of the things that you have, recognition of its importance and the void that would have been in its absence, and expression of gratefulness either to you partner (in case of a relationship) or to God (for career, health, and other areas of life).

Isn’t it that when you truly feel happy in a relationship, you appreciate your partner more and express your love more often. This leads to better fulfilling relationships and hence less stress in that area.

Similarly, taking the time out to regularly practice the act of gratitude ensures that you keep stress at bay. Taking the time out once a week to sit in meditation and think about the ‘good’ things that you have, makes your subconscious mind aware of things that are important to you and which gives you happiness.

We tend to be so preoccupied in life that we completely forgo and take for granted even the most important things such as our health, relationships, and sometime even our own character traits.

So what do we do about it?

A simple way to practice the act of gratitude is to first realize everything you are grateful for. List down every small blessing, every materialistic and non-materialistic thing that you should feel grateful for and stick this up somewhere, on your wall, mirror, anywhere where you can constantly see this and be reminded of.

Another plus of adopting this technique is that when you are stressed you already have a list of things you feel grateful for, so it comes instantly to you or you can directly read from the list.

Counting your blessings and practicing the act of gratitude is not just a moral code, it actually helps to reduce stress, improves your mental and emotional health, and hence causes a marked difference in your physical health by improving the overall quality of your life.

So, the next time you feel you are about to come under pressure and feel stressed, start counting your blessings and you would instantly feel a sense of calm taking over you.

Want to take it a step further? Perform one kind action everyday and you would definitely have a lot of things to feel grateful for and happy about.

3 Simple Ways To Reclaim Your Power Author: Nathan Amaral

The really good news is that it doesn't have to be some long, grueling process. You can start today by doing these three simple things:

Become still

In the fast paced world we live in, it's easy to get caught up in the chaos. There is nonstop noise and endless distractions that can take you away from what's really important. It can also drown out your inner voice, the connection you have to who you are at the very core of your being. It's when this connection is severed that you start to feel disconnected from the world around you, disconnected from yourself, and powerless over the direction your life is headed.

In order to restore the connection, you must learn to be still. Spend time alone with your thoughts, without any distractions or noise. This allows you tap into your innermost being, your true self. It's here where your true power lies.

Take responsibility for your life

It's easy to fall into the trap of becoming a victim – of thinking that we are powerless over the events in our life. After all, this mindset is perpetuated by society, the media, and many of our friends and families. The truth, however, is that we have complete control over the only thing that matters – how we choose to respond to unexpected events that occur.

The reality is that all events are neutral – they are neither good nor bad. It's how we perceive them that matters. For instance, someone losing their job could see it as a disaster of epic proportions – or they could see it as a chance to finally start their own business they've been dreaming about for years.

Obviously there are things like losing a loved one or dealing with a traumatic event that are extremely difficult to go through, but you still have the ability to choose to find the good in the situation and not be held hostage by your emotions.

Start taking a look at how you view the things that happen in your life, and decide right now to never be a victim again.

Be Happy in the Present

Many of us spend our days pining over our past or yearning for a future event that hasn't yet occurred. We feel like our best years are behind us – or that we can only enjoy our lives and feel satisfied when x occurs – a new job, a relationship, etc. It's a mindset that stifles the pleasure of living in the moment and causes you to delay or deny your happiness in just being.

When you attach conditions to your happiness it means you are looking for fulfillment outside of yourself - and you will never find it there. You must look within to find real joy, in the present moment, before you can ever move forward into the life you deserve.

When you choose to put these three simple steps into motion, a huge shift will occur in your life – you will be approaching situations from a position of power and your life will be transformed in the process.
