Keeping Your Chin Up - How to Be Happy When Things Are Bad

Keeping Your Chin Up - How to Be Happy When Things Are Bad

By Frederik Kreijmborg

We all experience times when things are bad. Keeping your chin up is not easy but it's manageable if you really want to turn things around.

Let me introduce four simple methods to be happy when things are bad which work for many people every day.

1. Recall some of the good things

Life has not always been bad. When you're feeling sad about something in your present it helps tremendously to remember something from your precious past that makes you smile again.

In order to feel good you have to move on. Recalling some of the good things that happened in your life will help you regain trust in yourself. You're in control of your emotions and you should not forget that.

2. Concentrate on today

Most people feel bad about things that happened days, weeks or even years ago. But why even bother? You can't change the past. It's gone. You have to deal with the fact that your only option is moving on. Everything else will corrupt your mental health and lead to a downward spiral of sadness.

Today is the day you should live in, not yesterday, not tomorrow. Just today. This is not easy and it takes some time to get used to live in the present instead of the dreaded past or the frightening future. Once you've learned to concentrate with today (each and every day) you'll be able to feel happy again in a matter of minutes.

You should concentrate on things that you're looking forward to or that you were looking forward to before things were bad. Stimulate your positive feelings connected to any of your plans for today (or any day in the future). Stick with your plan and don't let yourself bumped off track by negativity.

3. Surround yourself with happy people

It's much easier to be happy again after something bad happens if you surround yourself with other happy and relaxed people who enjoy their own personal to-days.

We tend to stick with sad people when we're sad but this behavior is unhealthy as it creates some kind of vicious circle which makes everything much more complicated. Instead of seeking other sad people you have to find people who have a higher level of energy than yourself at the moment.

Don't be afraid: you won't steal their energy or destroy their good vibes. It's a win-win situation as the other people will probably enjoy to support you with finding the bright side of life again. People love to make other people happy because they can give themselves an imaginary pat on the back, saying: "Well done. You've done your good deed for today."

Exploit that behavior; you won't do any harm by doing so.

4. Be creative

Another very efficient method to get rid of bad feelings is being creative. Drawing, singing, writing, gardening, scrapbooking, building and all sorts of creative activities will give you a nice boost of self-esteem because you see the (positive) results of your work immediately.

If you can create a picture, a song or a poem you can also create non-physical things, e.g. emotions.

Realize that you can create something out of nothing and utilize this ability to create happy thoughts for yourself.

If this sounds like stupid mumbo jumbo you're partly right. But it doesn't hurt to try one of two of the above methods, does it?

Not As Happy As You Want To Be

by Kim Ravida

Do you love your life? Are you not as happy as you would like to be? Sometimes it's what is happening on the inside that drives what is occurring on the outside. How many times does it feel to you that your life is out of control? Stuff is happening so fast and so often. Your kids aren't listening, the dog isn't listening and your husband says you didn't tell him what you know you told him. Is it them? Or is it you?

You aren't going to like this...it is you. If you are unhappy with what is going on, the first place to look is to you. Great news though, you have the power to change it all. Yes, you do! What is going on inside is causing the turmoil on the outside. What are your thoughts about yourself? Are they positive, encouraging and supporting? Or are they more along the lines of "I can't believe I forgot that, you idiot!" I won't go on - I'm aiming for an upbeat feel here.

If your thoughts are negative and you are always putting yourself down, the chances are the negativity is all around your being. Therefore, when people aren't listening to you, you get annoyed, aggravated and even angry at them. I call that the outward manifestation of your inner being. What it really is though, is that you are truly annoyed, aggravated and angry at yourself. So, then how can you turn that around and get the results you are wanting?

Here are five tips to turn it around:

  1. Remember that you have the power to change what you do not like by taking small simple steps.

  2. Stop being so hard on yourself. When you hear your inner voice say something negative, stop it right there and remember a time where you felt confident.

  3. Be kind and encouraging to yourself. Treat yourself as you would another person and you'll soon shift to a better inner feeling.

  4. Start talking to yourself in a more positive and supporting way.

  5. Begin to pay attention to how you are being with others. Are you showing up in a negative, unloving way and if so, shift that to a positive and loving manner.

Through your actions, what you will begin to see is a transformation in yourself. You will see that you are communicating clearly and that others are really listening.  It's almost like magic and truly beautiful.  You will notice yourself responding differently to others, and others responding to you in a good, positive, very pleasing way. We see the outer part of ourselves so often we forget that we have an inner self as well.  Once we treat our inner self with respect, patience and love, we transform not only ourselves but those around us.  We see the world as a place of beauty; a vast area to live and breathe openly and with great joy.

7 Tips to Improve Your Attraction to Prosperity

by Jeff Balagosa

The most popular aspect of the law of attraction is creating prosperity, for good reason too. Wealth can't buy you happiness, but I'm willing to bet most people would rather choose wealth and misery over poverty and misery. Because of the way our society works, wealth becomes the most powerful tool used to help people craft the life they want.

Despite its popularity, it is the subject where most people get stuck. I'll give you 7 tips to help you get your attraction to prosperity "unstuck."
1. Keep focus on what you want. This is the most important one. When you keep focus on what you want, you occupy your mind with goal oriented thoughts. It makes you more focused and helps curb procrastination.
2. Focus on being positive for most of your day. Think about it. Feeling happy for the majority of your life, results in living a happy life. Living a happy life is essential if you try to attract prosperity into it. And you don't need to feel happy all the time either. All it takes to make a huge impact on your life takes 51%. That 1% turns out to be all that's needed to be considered the "majority."
3. Practice gratitude as much as possible. When we feel grateful for what we already own, it tells the universe that we want more of it. Whatever you focus on expands, so when you focus on the good things you own already, your reality will expand on more good things. Heck, you can feel gratitude for things that you don't even own yet. Gratitude will help you get them much faster.
4. Take inspired action when the opportunity presents itself. My favorite. When you feel that intuitive push that tells you that you need to do something, (Like start a business, read a particular book, or make a phone call.) you need to do it. There's a popular saying that goes, "Your intuition is right 100% of the time." The trick, knowing the difference between your intuition and your emotional responses. If you follow these seven tips, makes it easier to tell apart.
5. Realize that you make up reality as you go. Your perception and beliefs literally create the physical world around you. If you'd like more info on this, go to Youtube and search for "The Double Slit Experiment." You'll feel fascinated with what you find.
6. Stay in the moment. All of our problems lie in our memories of the past and our thoughts about the future. Neither of these are actually real at this very moment. Right this very second, as you read this, life is perfect and peaceful. It's a perfect staging ground for creating wealth.
7. Have as much fun as possible. Celebrate every little success you can. When we acknowledge the good things in our reality, it will bring in more good. We all get a limited time here and life is too short to not enjoy it.
Just a few of the tips I know that will help bring prosperity into your life. There are many more techniques and methods for creating abundance, but these being the simplest and most straight forward. A great place to start!

Boost Your Self Esteem!

by Scott Beckstead

When you consider that low self-esteem is usually the result of negative messages being absorbed by the subconscious, it makes sense that feeding your mind more positive messages can make a powerful difference!

What stops most people is the uncertainty of what to say, and how to word affirmations for optimal effectiveness. Below you'll find some simple tips to help you write effective affirmations for improving your self-esteem.

1) Present tense. First, it's helpful to word affirmations in present tense, not future. You wouldn't want to say, 'I will learn to love myself' because that makes it sound like you'll get around to it someday. Instead you could say, 'I choose to love myself'. The wording of that affirmation does two things: it empowers you with the addition of the words 'choose to', and it puts the timeframe in the present moment.

2) Believable. At the same time, your affirmations should be believable to you. If you tried to say, I am a wonderful person with a lot to offer the world, you may not really believe that, so your subconscious mind might reject it. Instead, try to focus on a process rather than an end result in your affirmations. Say something like, I am learning to embrace my uniqueness and share it confidently with others.

3) Use the right tone. When you recite affirmations, you can do so aloud or just mentally, but you should focus heavily on the TONE you use. Rather than saying the words without emotion like you were reading a newspaper really inject an element of love and tenderness into them. Your subconscious mind picks up on the emotional aspect of what youíre saying more than the actual words. Imagine the difference between saying the words, ìI really love myselfî with a tone of love and compassion, or sarcasm. Which do you think would have a greater impact on your subconscious mind?

4) Repetition. Once you've got some affirmations formed to work on your self-esteem, try saying them several times a day. Remember, your subconscious mind is constantly playing back old, negative messages so you want to counteract those as much as possible. Keep reciting your more positive thoughts on a regular basis - especially when you become aware that youíre thinking negatively about yourself.

5) Give it time. Finally, remember that it will take time to change those old, negative messages in your mind to something more positive. It may take a few weeks or even months before youíll notice an obvious difference in how you feel, and you may be tempted to think it isn't working. Keep with it, and you will begin to see a difference eventually! Most likely it will be a gradual change. Little by little you'll start feeling more positive, and notice that you're feeling a bit happier and lighter. That's your signal that it's working!
