Time management is basically about being focused. The Pareto Principle also known as the '80:20 Rule' states that 80% of efforts that are not time managed or unfocused generates only 20% of the desired output. However,  80% of the desired output can be generated using only 20% of a well time managed effort. Although  the ratio '80:20' is only arbitrary, it is used to put emphasis on how much is lost or how much can be gained with time management.

Some people view time management as a list of rules that involves scheduling of appointments, goal settings, thorough planning, creating things to do lists and prioritizing. These are the core basics of time management that should be understood to develop an efficient personal time management skill. These basic skills can be fine tuned further to include the finer points of each skill that can give you that extra reserve to make the results you desire.

But there are more skills involved in time management than the core basics. Skills such as decision making, inherent abilities such as emotional intelligence and critical thinking are also essential to your personal growth.

Personal time management involves everything you do. No matter how big and no matter how small, everything counts. Each new are of knowledge you acquire, each new piece of advice you consider, each new skill you develop should be taken into consideration.

Daily Goal Setting Tips

To make your days as productive as possible, the first step is to clear the clutter from your mind and life. Here are some very simple yet effective tips, which will make the most of your day.

1. Chalk out a detailed plan to reach your target. For instance, let's assume that you want to clear the clutter in your room. What if your room looks like a pigsty, and you have not found the time to clean it for months? You will feel overwhelmed and may not even know where to start. So to achieve the goal of cleaning your room, break the goal into small steps. Jot down a list of things you need to do, in order to clear up all the stuff that you have collected. Decide on things you want to throw away like old shoes, clothes, make-up products etc. Once this is done, set up a time limit for each of these steps. You have now broken down a task that seemed overwhelming, into a doable task that has several small steps.

2. Ask someone in your life to be your accountability partner. It could be your sibling, partner, parent or a good friend. This person can help you attain your goals, since you would have to keep updating him/her on your progress regularly. Your accountability partner will help you achieve your goals and overcome hurdles.

3. Remember that there might be hurdles along the way. Several people give up on their goals, just because they face a few unexpected obstacles. It could be an internal obstacle or an external one. Obstacles could be things like discipline issues, negative thinking, limiting belief system, lack of time etc. Try to analyze the situation and understand the hurdles that might come up, so that you can get past them.

4. Once you know the kind of hurdles you might have to face, have an action plan ready. Let's say you have set a goal for yourself, according to which you will give up smoking in 6 months. What if you are in the company of smokers? What if someone offers you a cigarette? Initially, you can try and excuse yourself when you are in the company of smokers. You can try out nicotine patches. When you go to restaurants, you can choose to sit in the non-smokers zone. Just have a plan to cope with various obstacles that might come your way.

5. Every time you succeed, celebrate and rejoice. As you work towards your large goal, you will have to get past various small ones. Every time you achieve one of these smaller goals, reward yourself. This will help you stay motivated, since you will always be aiming at finishing a small goal to get to the reward. It might take years before you can reach your long-term goal, but your efforts towards this goal need to be rewarded.

Reaching your target is not always easy, but every time you move away from the path, get right back on. You may have to take a few detours, you may have to get some rest, but never give up. Never lose hope and before you know it, you will be where you have always wanted to be.

Everyone wants to be efficient, yet only a few manage. Why do you think that is? Are they more amazing, do they have more money or are they just generally lucky?

Perhaps they are, but let me tell you the key. Success has nothing to do with them. Sure it is nice if you got them, but what really is important is your mind-set.

Simply put efficient people think in a different way than the rest. They have fantastic workouts and the self-discipline to keep with them. It will take
effort to get there but the best aspect of it is, anyone can get there. I have seen people who had organizations that offered them with a fantastic
income, and they were not exceptional persons.

Often I pay attention to what people say: 'I could do better than that, they are doing this wrong.'. So why don't you? Who is there to stop you? That's
what differentiates them from the others. They did not just talk about it, they acted on it. Believe me, most principles can be turned effective, if
only you had the self-discipline to make them more than just wishes.

So it all comes down to you. If you want your way of life to be different, you need to alter your habits first. Once you have customized yourself, the rest will follow.

How many people do you know that have bad habits? Perhaps you don't even have to go far to see it, they may be your friends, nearby family members, or
even yourself. I know I am responsible of a few, but I am consistently managing them. Trying to determine techniques to get better.
Small aspects, but if you do enough of these little problems they will factor a lot to your complete well being. Get just a bit better, just a bit more
well read, comprehend just a simple new skill.

In time you will have customized yourself. And the best aspect about it? Once you start improving yourself, you will want to see how far you can go.

Next thing you know, you are one of the efficient and people are asking you what you did to get there.

It is so simple, yet most of us are too gradual to do anything about it. It is not our error, we are taught to be this way. In this day and age
everything is just a flip of a switch. We came to believe that we are eligible to everything, it is our right. The quicker you wake up from this dream,
the better off you will be.

It is important to know if you are developing any achievements. Not only will you see how far you've gone but it's also a impressive motivational
source. You need to stay motivated. It is unimportant how, so long as it functions. We are all different and what goes for some, might not be good for
others.

Stop Allowing Yourself to Be Distracted

The best way to achieve greatness and to excel at everything you do is to remove distraction from your life. Whatever you do, always give 100 % to the task at hand. When you are working on any specific project, place all your energy into working as effectively as you can on that project only. Avoid your natural tendency to keep thinking about other projects or personal issues. The same is true for when you are resting or playing, concentrate all your energy on actually recharging your batteries during rest or whilst carrying out your hobby. Avoid thinking about any work related issues, during this time, as this will keep you from adequately resting. Wherever you are or whatever you are doing, be there completely.

Focus 100 % on What You are Doing
I guess that this sounds like common sense and as such you would assume that everybody lives their lives like this. Unfortunately as you know, most things that are common knowledge or common sense are seldom common practice. Commit to make this subtle, yet crucial shift to the way you approach everything in your life and you will see a profound improvement in the results you will enjoy in both your life and business. When you make this shift, you will be more focused on your work, whilst working and your energy will all flow towards making you operate as effectively and productively as possible. The same is true for whilst you are resting. The focus you will invest into actually resting, will allow you to recharge your batteries properly, allowing you to be rested and ready to tackle your week with gusto.

Don't allow yourself to be Distracted
So many people allow themselves to be distracted from the task at hand. When they are working, they are thinking about friends, rest, recreation or other distractions and while they are spending time with friends' or family or they are involved in recreational activities, they are constantly thinking of work and feel like they are procrastinating. This is the reason why so many people struggle to find harmony and balance in their lives.

When you are constantly focused on something else, when carrying out any task, your attention is not completely on the task at all. So when this happens, your energy flows away from where it should be. As you know wherever you attention goes, your energy flows. When you allow constant distraction and you do not give all your focus to the task at hand, you will never achieve a satisfactory result in the end.

Having a Rest Ethic is as Crucial as having a Work Ethic
Resting is a crucial part of any success journey. It is during rest periods that you recharge your batteries and re-energise yourself. The challenge most people have is that during rest, when they should be recharging their batteries, they are constantly thinking about work and all the things they did not manage to get done, whilst they were working, because when they were working they were thinking about their family or focused on other distractions. This is a downward spiral and over time causes burnout and very poor performance.

Action Idea: The way to fix this is simple, start with the all-important rest periods. Schedule rest into your week and ensure that you schedule a minimum of 24 hours of total rest into your schedule. During these 24 hours, you must give yourself permission to switch off completely from work and just relax and recharge your batteries. This will allow you to be refreshed and fired up the next work day. When you commit to introduce this into your schedule, your productivity will soar and you will achieve so much the following day.

Done for the Day
Next introduce a new habit into your schedule; I refer to as "Done For The Day". This is a scheduled time each day, which you plan into your schedule, where you accept that you are going to stop working. You give yourself permission to stop working for the day, to switch off and actually rest and unwind. This conscious permission, allows you to move from work mode into rest mode, without feeling guilty. When you make this shift and you practice this simple technique, when you are done each day, you are spending time with your family resting, instead of beating yourself up because you feel like you should rather be working. It allows you to be invested in resting 100 %. You no longer feel like you are procrastinating and should be working. You are done for the day and as such are investing really important time with your family.

Making it work for you
The best way to find a place where you feel comfortable to apply "Done For The Day" successfully in your life is to schedule your life as follows:

Set a time aside each day when you will stop working. The time you choose is unique to you, I choose 20H00 each day.
At around 19H40 I review my day and asses my performance and outcomes for that day. This takes about 5 minutes.
Any tasks that I was unable to complete that day. I place onto my dairy as first priorities for the next morning.
I then spend 15 minutes planning for the next day. I include as much information in this process as possible. For example if I need to make a call, I ensure that I include the telephone number etc.
I then feel comfortable that everything is taken care of and I switch off from work mode and move into rest and recharge mode.
I have given myself permission to stop working at a specific time each day. This has allowed me to completely rest and recharge my batteries, without feeling guilty that I am not working. I have also become far more effective when I work, because I am totally rested each morning. I also feel totally focused on my work and get an incredible amount done each day.

Give whatever you are doing the gift of your complete attention. Pay attention; stop staggering through your day. Focus your energy on getting from your day, stop simply trying to get through your day.

Self-esteem is defined as a person’s overall “self-appraisal…their own level of competence, beauty and worth.” Interestingly, self-esteem can involve a person’s belief system, as well as their emotion. Self-esteem can be tied in with a person’s desires and belief-obligations, as well as what they feel is their own level of competence. Emotionally, self-esteem can be affected by feelings of pride and shame as well as joy and despair. You can tell a lot about a person’s self-esteem in the way they carry themselves. Body language as well as tone of voice and facial expressions can reveal qualities of assertiveness, shyness, confidence or nervousness.

Many people suffer from low self-esteem as well as other self-limiting beliefs, which pummel them into a state of non-action. Self-esteem is not limited to one aspect of a person’s body or mind, nor is it all-inclusive. Some people may hate their physical appearance but still hold their mental prowess to be average to high in ability. Others may discount their abilities or their worth, even though they enjoy showcasing their body for attention. Some people may hate every aspect about themselves. A high level of self-esteem essentially means respecting yourself as a person, treating yourself with the same attitude that you would give one of your own friends or peers. This is an important step to increasing your level of self-esteem: viewing your life objectively. If you look at yourself through someone else’s eyes, you may find plenty to love and little to hate. You may also be able to better pinpoint negative behaviors that can be changed, assuming you want to change.

High self-esteem has been called the “immune system” of the soul, something that can help a person to cope with life’s problems and sidestep problems. What builds self-esteem in the first place? Self-esteem is very hard to fake. People who try too hard to be self-confident usually give themselves away. Self-esteem is an internal peace that exudes to the surface of a man or woman’s skin. Self-esteem evolves along with the human organism, starting from a child’s developmental process into adulthood. The child learns to be happy and confident with his or her abilities because of positive reinforcement learned early on. Beyond this stage, self-esteem is increased the more success an adolescent (and eventually and adult) enjoys in life. Success naturally makes people feel good about the world and about their own capacity to contribute to it. The more challenges they overcome they more energized they feel. You could say that success is like a healthy vitamin, as opposed to the addictive drug of failure. Your body has to cope somehow with its surroundings. Better that you nourish it with positive feelings rather than expose it to chronic misery!

How To Be Successful

How does one ensure success, though? Isn’t it true that it’s hard to become successful in life and that, as many inspiring success stories as there are out there, there are twice as many depressing stories that don’t amount to anything? Yes, it is true that bad things happen and that some visions of success are unrealistic. It would not be wise to covet the riches of a movie star or the fame of a national figure. This is an unrealistic expectation for most, propagated by the media, an institution that relies on the sensational and the unbelievable in order to sell their product. Before you start to define what success really means you have to determine your own personal definition. What do you want out of life, in the short-term and the long-term?

Setting goals is a must. I believe in setting ambitious goals that are in alignment with what you want in your life. When you set short-term goals, you are giving your mind more consistent reinforcement. You are not focusing on one monumental feat every 5 years, but little goals perhaps every week or even every day. It’s about progress and achieving milestones along the way to your long-term and life-time goals. The more goals you fulfill, even if they are relatively small, the better you will feel about yourself. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small, and forgive yourself for your mistakes. This is what makes or breaks self-esteem. Increase your self-esteem by measuring your progress. You know if you are making progress you are on the path toward achieving your goals.

Goal setting is one of the most effective ways to achieve success in your life. Sadly, for many people the setting of goals ends in failure, and they deem the goal setting process to not work. There are many reasons for why the goal setting process may not have worked, this article shares with you the major reasons.

  • No clear direction: If the overall outcome of the goal isn't given much thought then there is a high chance that the goal will not be achieved. To over come this you need to clearly and specifically look at what it is that you actually want to achieve and what is involved in turning your dream into a reality.
  • Lack of planning: Writing a goal down on a piece of paper is a good start, but there is a lot more to the goal setting process than this. As with the above dot point you need to clearly identify what is involved in achieving the goal and develop up a clear plan of action. Following on from this the goal should then be broken into sub goals.
  • No daily to do list: Again, while high level goals are good, you need to be taking action every day to help make your goal a reality. This requires a thorough knowledge of the goal and a to do list which reflects the goal.
  • The goal isn't important enough: You need to remind yourself just how important the goal is for you and what it will mean for you and your family. Without this, there won't be much of an incentive for you to actually want to achieve your goal.
  • Time: The process of achieving a goal isn't going to be easy. It will require a lot of work, and will take away from some of your relaxation time. You need to have a solid understanding of how long your goal will take to achieve and what it will mean to your schedule.
  • Dream stealers: Yes... there are people out there who will try and take away your dreams. They will put you down and tell you that it can't be done. Firstly, always consider advice, but take it with a grain of salt. If you have done the research and know what is involved you will know that it can be done... don't let people steal your dreams and goals away.

Mindset Techniques for Your Journey to Success

There's no denying, the road to seizing a goal can be rough. And when the prize is something you've reached for before (perhaps even more than once) but not yet grasped, it can feel even harder. Past obstacles and underlying fears can sabotage our efforts, making the effort seem futile.

But that may be about to change for you! I've seen people grab success after the most difficult of struggles. My patients and telecoaching clients have uncovered the secret to meeting those seemingly impossible challenges: maintaining a healthy mindset. It's true: Changing your thinking can help you radically alter whatever it is in your life--relationships, career, health, or any other facet of your world--that isn't what you want it to be.

Feeling beaten down and defeated? Pull one of these tried and true techniques out of your bag of tricks. Better yet, incorporate them into everyday living, and watch your whole world brighten and expand.

Practice gratitude.
When you start to notice the universe doing something right, it changes your day. Gratitude moments needn't be earthshattering; even the small details are precious. Think of the sun shining after a lot of rain, or the smile from a stranger. Recognizing these gifts is like wearing an inner smile for the day.

Make time for yourself.
It can be just 5 minutes a day, but make this time solely yours. This little moment can refuel you for the rest of the day. Eating well, sleeping, exercising, and just quiet time all count when you embrace them. Please don't think of it as a luxury--personal time is a necessity. Without it, you'll feel even more overwhelmed and resentful, two obstacles to success.

Keep an inspiration archive.
One of my favorite places to go is a "quotes/inspiration" folder I keep on my computer. In just one click, all the thoughts that I found helpful, uplifting, and supportive are there for me to refresh my attitude, doubt, and second guessing. Whew.

Learn, but do not obsess.
Being fearful sometimes means that you need to educate yourself. It's like turning on a light in a dark room. Sometimes you need to consult an expert, read, or enroll in a class to tackle your fears. But always remember that balance is key. When we find ourselves asking "Dr. Google" for so much information that we become overwhelmed, confused, or even more fearful, it's time to take a step back.

Get a better script.
Negative self-talk is an ingrained habit that's hard to change. If your routine is to constantly blame, berate, or insult yourself, you need a new speech model. Need a few examples?

The old tape: "Figures this would happen to me. I have no luck."
The new message: "OK. It's all a test and now I know where I stand."

The old tape: "It was only a matter of time before I blew it again."
The new message: "There's no failure--it's just information to use for the future."

The old tape: "Nice, but what's the catch? Good things don't happen to me."
The new message: "I am deserving of the good and abundance that the universe has to offer me."

With practice, your new script will become second nature.

Know that there's only one you.
That's good news! Although having a mentor to guide you is beneficial, you alone are responsible for and the captain of your ship. It's what you think about and apply life's opportunities that really counts. Comparison to others will drag you back down to that "not good enough" place again, but the reassuring truth that you are doing your best and taking slow but steady steps is your ticket to success.

Don't let fears or a long-standing habit of negativity derail your efforts. You can reach your goals--you just need the right support. Take steps to strengthen the most important force of encouragement of all: Yourself.

Attitude for Greatness


What is attitude? It is what you think, believe, feel, expect, act, in relation to yourself, life, people, and your goals. Attitude can be positive or it can be negative; it can be limiting or it can be expanding; if you have a positive attitude, you feel alive, well, loved, happy, liked, confident,...you feel good; if you have a negative attitude, you feel angry, resentful, fearful, depressed, anxious, hopeless,... you feel bad. Your feelings are your thermometer to your attitude and, as we will see below, your life is the mirror to your attitude.

Now, how is your attitude, how is your dominant attitude? Is it positive, and expanding, or is it negative and limiting? What do you think you can achieve? Who do you think you are? What do you think about yourself? What do you think about other people? Do you think they are out there to get you or to help you? Do you expect to be liked by people or do you expect to be 'judged'? Do you expect to be lucky? Do you expect to achieve your goals? Do you expect that life is going to be difficult, that you will have to struggle to make money, or do you expect life is wonderful and enjoyable?

Your expectations determine what will happen in your life, as very simply, what you expect, you get. So, if you are not sure of what your expectations really are, take a look at your life: whatever you have in your life right now is a reflection of who you are inside and the vibrations you send out. If you are struggling with money, with your health, with a relationship, with your job, with people, it means that somewhere your attitude is not healthy. So, if you want to change your life, you need to change yourself, you need to change your attitude.

In fact, a healthy attitude is when you feel good about yourself, when you know that you will achieve your goals, when you know people will like and love you, when you know that things will work out, when you know you are precious and the Universe is conspiring to your happiness. A healthy attitude is when you love people, when you love yourself, when you thank God for who you are and for all the wonderful gifts you have, for all the people you have in your life, for all that has happened to you, because that has made you the person you are today.

So, your attitude towards yourself has a strong impact on your self-love, on the way you treat yourself, and so, on your health- mental, emotional, and physical. Your attitude towards people will have a strong impact on the response you will get from them, because if you love them, if you are grateful, if you appreciate them, if you are kind, they will love you back. So, three emotions are a key to great relationships: gratitude, kindness and love. In fact, as the most important needs of any human being are the need for connection, the need to feel appreciated and the need to feel loved, and everything that happens in your life happens through people, whether is in your personal or professional life, you need to have a very positive attitude here. And this means always, really always, look at the positive and best in people, you included. Look at the positive in people and circumstances, and they will become that, you will take out the best from them, and you will attract more of that. And look at the best in you, in how extraordinary and unique you truly are, look at your gifts, qualities and strengths, and you will develop a healthy esteem and love for yourself.

And your attitude towards life will determine your success or failure, whether you will achieve your goals and be the best you can be, or whether you are going to struggle. Now, your attitude towards your goals is also something more than that, because the expectation of achievement whether is the person you want to become or a goal you want to achieve, makes you become that person and achieve what you want before you actually have done it. It is the Law of Attraction. And the more you have expectations and you take actions to achieve your goals, the faster you are going to achieve them. So, let us suppose you want to be confident or you want to be successful, if you have the attitude and the expectations of being confident and successful, you are going to feel confident and successful already now. It is simply a shift in your consciousness.

Now, let us suppose you have developed a healthy attitude towards yourself, life, people, and your goals. What do you do when you encounter negative people or negative circumstances? What do you do when somebody gets angry at you? What do you do when you are driving and someone cuts in your way? Well, we need to develop an immune attitude, learn to be immune to negativity. You need to learn not to let anything disturb your peace of mind. You can simply ignore it and smile it away. And think that things are temporary, that if you have a great attitude, you will create a life where you have all that you desire and deserve, a wonderful life, guaranteed.

How Can I Get Motivated and Reach My Goals?

Did this ever happen to you? You set a goal and start to work like mad on it. A diet, a training program, to learn something new, you name it. But on your way you encounter obstacles that seem to be too big. Or you forget about the advantages you'd get from reaching your goal. Anyway, you drop your goal and rush for another one. In the end you have a long series of goals never reached. This happens to many people. Many people create goals and never reach them.

Why is this so? Paralysis, being overwhelmed? Doing lots of busy work but not approaching what you aiming at? Lack of dedication?

Most of the time when you drop your goal the reasons for this are not to be sought for externally. Most of the time the reasons are of psychological nature. For example fears. Fear of failure, fear of what others might say and think or even fear of success. You don't believe this? It happens more often than you would think. Unconsciously you don't think you are worth arriving at what you want.

Another reason might be that your goals are not specific enough and you wouldn't even know when you have reached the goal. "I want to lose weight" is such an example. When the scale shows a smaller figure than the day before you have reached the goal. You should rather formulate it like: "After such and such time I want to weigh between such and such."

Then there is poor time management and planning. You don't do what brings you closer to success. You read unimportant e-mails, have unimportant phone calls, do paperwork that has nothing to do with your goal. You should sort out what needs to be done for your normal living like going to work, shopping, doing the housework and so on. That stuff has to be done of course, but maybe you can outsource part of it. The rest of the time you can spend to work on your goals.

So what could be a remedy to all of this?

I recommend that before you set a goal you ask yourself a couple of questions:

Can I formulate my goal in a positive manner? This is sometimes very easy, for example to be able to run that distance in that time at that date. Or it can be very difficult, for example: "I want to give up smoking" or "I want to stop smoking in such time." Both are negative formulations and I can't think of a positive one.

Is this goal realistic? Loosing 20 kg within one week is certainly not a realistic goal neither is "I want to be able to run a marathon without any training." So please keep your goals realistic.

Set a timescale. You want to have reached the goal at that specific date or after that specific time interval. Be realistic here as well.

How does it feel to have reached my goal. Dream yourself in holding your diploma in your hands. Or just having finished your first marathon or achieving your dream weight or whatever. How does that feel, what would you see, hear, smell, taste. Be as realistic at this as you can.

How do I know when I have reached my goal. What do I see, hear, feel, smell, taste.

What do I have to give up by achieving my goal?
The above is a good starting point for reaching your goals. Than stick to it until you reach it.

The goals are on target towards personal development

Personal development can take on many forms, whether it be in connection with family matters, career aspirations, financial security, further education, or solutions to emotional and attitude problems. The sure fire way of concentrating the mind towards affecting your life ambitions, is the process of goal setting. This allows an overall positive perspective to be created, which will shape decision making, together with all the other aspects that are vital in reaching your targets.

It is important to know for yourself, exactly how far you want to go with your goals, for example: what level do you want to take your career to? What earnings are you aiming for and by what stage of your life do you want to achieve them? What kind, and to what depth of knowledge, do you need to attain in order to reach your objectives? Get the mindset sorted with regard to any, or all of these, and then it is all about your motivation driving you on. Being true to yourself is part of the battle, as too often people do what they think is expected of them, rather than following their own aspirations.

Goal setting will bring everything into focus, but these need to be of significance, meaning that they have to make a difference in the long run. There is little point setting a goal that fails to improve your current situation, you will only look back and wonder why you bothered. Therefore, relevance and attainability are key aspects to consider when deciding on the aims and objectives. Where ever possible, set the goals so that you are in control and not reliant upon second, or even third parties. They may not be as driven as yourself and unfortunately no matter how much you cajole them, they could end up being the stumbling block for you. However, if you do need assistance, this can play a part in your personal development, as it is an excellent test at your skills in persuasion, perseverance and management.

It is a good idea to give yourself small rewards, or treats along the way, after all you will have deserved it if you have achieved a deadline, and it will serve to build your confidence, which is vital if you are going to further yourself to the level you aspire to. All the way along, right the way up to the main goal, there should be smaller targets, but if any are reached earlier, or easier than originally suspected, then ensure that the next is more difficult. It is important to push yourself to the maximum, otherwise you are effectively cheating yourself. On the flip side, if it takes longer and is more tricky than anticipated, then make the next one slightly simpler, as too much struggle will quickly evaporate your positivity and drive.

They keys to keep in mind are to stay on course towards what you want to achieve in your life and separate anything that you consider to be irrelevant, or negative to your long term ambitions. Remain motivated, and thrive on the self-confidence that will improve rapidly, as you move towards your goal.

Deadlines should be realistic, but at the same time should also challenge you toward fulfilling what you have determined it is that you want to do.


Helping others is one of the most effective ways of helping yourself. Self-sacrifice is self-actualization, and in lending a hand your true colors show and shine. You will also boost your self-esteem when you donate your time or resources to others and probably find out along the way that you have a lot more to be grateful for than you might have realized.


Create solutions instead of problems. People will appreciate someone who solves issues instead of creating new ones. If an existing issue is ignored by everyone, be the one who is going to solve it instead of avoiding it or criticizing the lack of action of others. When making changes, consider what kind of issues this will mean for everyone.


Having integrity and a clear conscience will keep your self-esteem up and self-esteem is pivotal to personal development! Do not cut corners, make excuses or give yourself other reasons to feel like you are not giving life your best effort. All of those little things will add up to a weight that will burden you with guilt and stop your success dead in its tracks, not to mention keeping you from getting a good night sleep.


Putting these tips to use will take you closer to the real happiness that you deserve. Your personal development will be enhanced if you choose even one of them to make your own. There is no need to let any of the obstacles in your way, prevent you from achieving success.

Are Your Goals Aligned With Your Passions? by Michele Willmott

You may have heard about the importance of writing down and setting your goals for the future. And as the famous quote says, “if you fail to plan you plan to fail!”
Consider the following questions however:
Are your goals aligned with what you are truly passionate about?
Are your goals just based on what you think you should do or should have or should be?
How much do you really care if you achieve your goals or not?
It might seem like a nice idea to own a gigantic yacht, have it moored at Cannes marina, wear designer clothes, drink copious bottles of champagne an party all night, because that’s what the celebrities do! But if this isn’t really your thing and you would rather have a romantic night in with a DVD and a takeaway curry then chances are that you won’t be bothered whether you achieve the goal or not!

When setting your goals for the up and coming year, 5 years or 10 years it is a great idea to start from the standpoint of your passions. It is then that you will feel really, dare I say it, “passionate” about achieving them. Your goals will also be closely aligned with your values or guiding principles. Your values are the things that are so important to you that you wouldn’t want to live your life without them.

When your goals have been created from this starting point and you achieve or experience them, you will feel a whole host of positive emotions. How about feeling a sense of aliveness, freedom, joy, pampering, excitement, confidence, recognition, or success to name but a few!? This also has numerous connotations for helping us to lead a life free from stress.

So, what things do you love to do, what excites you and which of those things would you really not want to do without in your life?
Make a list of 10 things and write down the answer to these questions “Why, do I love doing that” or “why, is that important to me”.

To give you an example; when I was trying to whittle down my list of passions to just 5, I realised that if I could connect with the feelings and qualities that I love to have in my life, then I am more likely to set goals which come from the heart. Goals that would feel truly satisfying and fulfilling, once I had achieved them. So for me, the feelings I love to experience are: joy; aliveness; a sense of being connected to others and the universe; a sense of luxury or being pampered; vitality & energy; feeling successful; confidence, honesty and intimacy, amongst others.

The next step was to ask myself “What things do I really love to do which help me to get in touch with these feelings?” Some of my answers were: travelling to new and exciting places; meditating & practising yoga; dancing (salsa); giving personal or wellness coaching to others; having the opportunity to attend workshops where I can learn more about myself and grow as a person; enjoying great food (but definitely not cooking it myself!) being in nature; enjoying open and honest communication.
In order for me to be able to experience and recreate the feelings that mean so much to me (as it is then that I feel like I am really living my life fully!) it makes sense for me to set my goals around the achievement of such feelings.
Following on from this, some of my goals (in a very general form) are:
1)To be a great Life Coach and continue to expand my business.
2)To continue my Meditation & Yoga practice – as this is where I feel abundant and connected and peaceful.
3)To travel to new places and attend workshops where I can learn more about myself & meet like-minded people.
4)To Dance (with my husband) as often as I can.
5)To work on having honest, open and authentic relationships.
Once you have worked out what you really want from your life, how you would like to feel and what you love doing, you are then in a great place to set your goals.

The following step would then be to be more specific about the goal itself and give it a time frame. Make it a SMART goal (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time specific) or in the coaching world replace the R with Resonant (does it get you excited?) and the T with Thrilling (does it sound thrilling to you?).

Tips on How to Use Mantras to Accomplish Your Goals

A lot of people think of mantras as just verbal things, which they are not. So what are they? Well, they are a personal ritual. An action that a person can initiate to achieve something they want. This action could be a physical action, a sound, a syllable, word or group of words, mental or even spiritual. Mantras are believed to be capable of producing a significant change in a person because they can be used as a powerful driving force to aid a person realizes a certain purpose.

Basically they are a life style that helps in personal development. Personal verbal mantras involve repeating your goal and what you are going to do to achieve it over and over again. What this repetition does is remind your brain of how important your goal is to you. A physical mantra would be moving: like, repeating a physical movement over and over again until it becomes ingrained in the brain. A spiritual one would be continuous prayer for an outcome that you want. A mental one would be taking on a different way of thinking about things. It is up to you to choose what way would be best for you to practice.

But, the good thing is, you can use them for anything that you want to achieve in life: things like attaining personal goals, producing a significant transformation in your life style or even developing your psychic capabilities.

So how do you utilize mantras to attain your goals? Here are a few simple steps you can use:

First: make a list of your goals.
The thing is you must make clear your goals. What is it that you want to accomplish? You need to be specific about what you want to accomplish. Could it be succeeding in getting your first half a million dollar by the age of 28, or is it you want to own your first house six years after you begin working.

Second: write down the purpose for wanting to achieve your goals.
Why do you want to have half a million by the age of 28? Is it because you want to realize a sense of financial well-being? So you must find out the commitment that will aid drive you. This commitment will be your incentive to work harder towards attaining your goals.

Third:put your list somewhere you can see it every-day.
So you need to put your list somewhere noticeable. This could be the mirror on your dressing table, wallet or purse.

Fourth: repeat your mantra.
Repeat it 20 times out loud in the morning, afternoon and before going to bed. And every time an obstacle comes in your way. Your mantra will work if you have listed strong enough motives that will force you to get back up and start working towards your goal again.

You must make the whole of your life your own personal mantra. Remember to be tenacious in supporting your mantra by taking action: meaning do any little thing you can every-day that will take you nearer to your goal and great rewards are sure to follow.

One thing to remember is that for best results try to create your own mantra because it will then be personal which means that your unconscious mind will work even that much better towards achieving your gaols.

A few samples of a verbal mantra to say out loud:

I have all the energy I need to accomplish my goals.
My life is a success-story.
I am a winner-I win often, and I win big!
My imagination is now creating all the financial abundance that I desire.
I let go of worry. I enjoy the natural flow of this day; whatever it may bring.
I want to open my mind, body, sprit to become ______ and understand why.
I will do my best to take note of my true self.
I can be who-ever I want to be.
As you can see they are easy to construct, so you can come up with your own ones Good Luck!

Goal Setting As A Means Of Self Improvement

It is often easy to forget exactly how important goal setting is to self improvement. We can have lofty ambitions for changing or improving who we are, but if we don't begin the journey with one step as Confucius once said and then break it down into smaller plans, the journey might begin to seem impossible.

The reason goal setting works as a means of self improvement is two-fold: the first part is obvious it allows us to break a really complex task down into small components that are easier to follow, more detailed, and less overwhelming. The second reason why goal setting is an effective means of self improvement is that it provides us with constant motivation. Whenever we accomplish that goal or objective on the way to the greater goal, we feel as if we have made progress, and it emboldens us to work towards the next goal in line.

Before anyone can begin goal setting for self improvement, he must determine what it is about himself that he would like to change and for what reason. For some people, the ultimate act of self improvement would involve quitting smoking cigarettes. For others, weight is a self improvement issue for which they are most concerned. For others, it might be something different, like being more assertive, more financially secure, or more charitable.

Of course, no one knows our faults better than we do. If we're overweight, we usually know just horrible it makes us feel, even if no one around us even really notices it. If we drink beyond what could be considered careful moderation, we know how it makes us feel and what it has done to our relationships.

Now, once you have identified what it is that you would like to improve about yourself, you can begin the goal setting process. Start with the ultimate goal (i.e., to lose 30 pounds). Next, depending on how large your ultimate goal is and how long it will reasonably take you to accomplish begin goal setting for objectives with timelines. For these smaller objectives, it is a good idea to tie them to actions, rather than results. If, for instance, your goal is to go to the gym three times each week and decrease your fat and carbohydrate intake, you might accomplish all of those goals, but it doesn't mean you will accomplish your short-term intended result, which was to lose ten pounds in 30 days.

If you only lose 10 pounds when your goal was 30 pounds, don't feel like you haven't succeeded. Instead, see if you followed the goals you set out to accomplish for the time period: did you go to the gym three times each week? Did you decrease your fat and carbohydrate intake? If you answered yes to all of these questions and you DID lose at least some weight, then you know your goal setting activities are on the right track, but you just need to intensify the components or increasing the overall timeline.

So, to reiterate, successful goal setting for self improvement consists of three things: creating long term goals, short term objectives, and re-evaluating the plan to make sure it is more realistic.
